In May 2008 Peter Moore became the BBC Young Musician of the year following numerous rounds of competition and a concerto final with the National Orchestra of Wales held in the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. This achievement came hard on the heels of a string of honours including becoming best soloist in the entertainment section at the French Open contest. In fact, there is so much we could write of this young mans achievements by way of introduction.
So it was with all this in mind, that everyone had eagerly awaited his arrival in Adelaide and the opportunity to hear this very talented young Trombone musician.
Peter arrived in Adelaide earlier this week, with parents Grenville and Jane. The start of an Australian wide tour that will take in most Australian state capitals.
Settling Peter into Australia was an important consideration for tour organiser Bruce Raymond. It was an opportunity to take Peter on tours that have included the sightseeing of Australian wildlife. We're not quite certain that Peter still understands the notion of Australian's eating Kangaroo after seeing them in real life.
K & N Spring Gully Brass under the Musical direction of Bruce Raymond, became the first Australian band to marvel at Peter Moore's incredible talents on Trombone. The band was fortunate to get an insight at rehearsal on Thursday 23 August.
Friday's concert in the Baptist Church Adelaide saw Peter Moore on Trombone and K & N Spring Gully Brass combine for a spectacular concert.
The concert commenced with James Curnow's 'Fanfare and Flourishes', followed by 'Vitae Lux' arr Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen.
The band then accompanied Peter with his performance of 'Shout' by Rob Wiffin. Peter had selected this opening number himself. The audience were sold. This was followed by 'Georgia' arr Alan Morrison.
K & N Spring Gully Brass Principal Cornet Kevin Joughin delighted the audience with his performance accompanied by band of 'La Virgin De La Macarena' arr Chris Hendricks. Kevin's performance was faultless and almost 'haunting' in the stillness of the Baptist Church acoustics.
Peter returned, accompanied by band for 'Rhapsody for Trombone', arr Gordon Langford.
The first half was concluded with the well known march by Goff Richards 'The Jaguar'. The band was conducted by Peter's father Grenville.
The second half of the concert commenced with 'Breezin Down Broadway' and an opportunity for Bari Thomas on Euphonium to perform 'Myfannwy' arr Denzil S Stephens'.
A K & N Quintet, together with Peter performing the very catchy 'Wooden Snow'
Peter returned later in the half with performances of 'Blessed Assurance and the concert ended with a truly captivating audience stealer of the ever popular 'Danny Boy'. Peter Moore deservedly receiving a standing ovation from the packed Baptist Church audience.
If the Adelaide concert is anything to go by, the rest of Australia is in for a real and genuine treat. One can only hope, that the lifetime of experiences that this young man will experience of his Australian Odyssey will see him return time and time again to these shores.
Photographs from the 24 July Concert will be added when made available.
