Youth Brass

K&N Youth Brass has always placed great emphasis on the development of younger players, an integral part of the continued success of our senior band and the betterment of brass in general. The band exists to provide opportunities for passionate musicians to play brass band music to the highest standards, and is aimed not only at helping their playing, but also improving their musicianship, widening their musical horizons and motivating them to achieve their full potential as musicians.

Youth Band Musical Director Peter Smith has taken up the challenge of continuing to develop, coach and mentor K&N Youth Brass, building on what has already been achieved and further developing the band’s musicianship and teamwork.

We're quick to point out, that while this ensemble is called 'Youth Brass', its membership is drawn from all ages. Membership of K&N Youth Brass is open to any player of a brass band instrument. The Band currently has approximately 40 registered members ranging from 10 years of age to mature age.

The Band is very proud to have nurtured many players over the years who are now integral members of SA’s premier band, K&N Spring Gully Brass. Other players have gone on to join other Brass Bands in South Australia and around the country.

K&N Youth Brass undertakes a varied program of concerts and contests in the local community and beyond. Over the past few years it has enjoyed competition success in ‘C’ grade - 2006 and ‘D’ grade - 2007/8/9 of the SA Band Championships.

The band is always on the lookout for chances to perform in public and has a major aim of returning to the very competitive ‘C’ grade arena.

K&N Youth Brass rehearses every Thursday night from 6.30pm to 7.45pm at the band-room 31 Beulah Road Norwood. The band encourages enquiries from absolute beginners to more mature and experienced players and has a number of instruments available for hire.
